+1, but to be honest this doesn't really seem counterintuitive to me, at least not after having seen linear algebra. Rotation is just any linear transformation that preserves lengths and angles. As long as you believe that, that it should make sense that you might be able to rotate "around" lots of things besides lines. – Mehrdad Feb 12 at 10:16
